JESUS IS NAILED TO THE CROSS READ Luke 23: 33-34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” How often have we realised that we have made a mistake, and immediately sought to excuse or justify it? Do we really feel better when the excuse is accepted and we escape sanction? What greater wrong could humanity do than crucify the Son of God? But when Jesus was on the Cross his main concern was that God forgive the mob. The explanation for the mob’s actions was little more than an aside. Forgiveness is at the heart of Christianity. If Jesus had the courage to go to the Cross as forgiveness for our sins, surely we can have the courage to admit our wrongs? If Jesus was able to ask for forgiveness for the mob, surely we can forgive those who have wronged us? To forgive is not to forget. We still remember the Crucifixion nearly two thousand years on. But we are at peace with it as we understand why it happened. So often in our modern lives we pray for peace. Perhaps we might consider forgiveness as a way to achieve this peace? Ian Scott
