JESUS CARES FOR HIS MOTHER Read John 19: 25 - 27 It is so hard to imagine the grief and pain that Mary must have felt as she knelt at the cross of her beloved son. Perhaps she was remembering the words of Simeon in the temple more than 30 years before ... that a sword would pierce through her own soul also. Yet, even as Jesus was giving his life to save the whole world, these verses from John’s Gospel demonstrate to us his concern for his mother. Our families are the most precious gifts from God, and we should treasure and care for them under all circumstances. The apostle Paul tells us that ‘Faith, Hope, and Love abide; but the greatest of these is Love’. Surely Jesus gives us a beautiful example of this greatest of gifts in his expression of love and compassion towards his mother and much loved disciple even as he is dying on the cross. Love is indeed the greatest gift - let us share it freely. Alison Black |
