Isaiah 49: 13 - 16

Shout for joy, you heavens;  rejoice, you earth;

burst into song, you mountains!
For the Lord comforts his people
and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.
14 But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me,the Lord has forgotten me.”15 “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget, I will not forget you!
16 See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are ever before me.

Imagine the scene.  There is a whole pile of gifts sitting under the Christmas tree.  You can’t resist peaking, having a look at the labels,  eyeing up the parcels in the hope you can anticipate what’s in them,  wishing for x-ray vision to see exactly what they contain, only to discover that your name is not on any of the parcels.  You have been forgotten.

It happens, doesn’t it?  Let me assure you that when we look beyond the material, the mercenary, the trappings of Christmas, you are not forgotten,  you are not an outcast.  The words of the psalmist are yours to ponder. “ See I have engraved  you on the palm of my hands.

The birth of Christ came about to bring about your salvation, to make it possible for us to  realise how deeply you and I  are loved,
